Providing practical management skills and tools for your farm, ranch, or agribusiness

About MAST

As an agricultural producer and/or agribusiness professional, you know that it is vitally important to stay current on industry trends and best practices as you continue to grow and evolve your business.  And in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University, we understand that a traditional educational setting (and traditional tuition pricing) will not and cannot work for every professional who hopes to do just that.  In 2001, a group of our faculty realized the importance of creating an educational program that not only brought producers and agribusiness professionals together in their educational endeavors but also allowed them the freedom and flexibility to learn at their own pace in the convenience of their own homes.  With that, MAST – Management, Analysis, and Strategic Thinking – was born.MAST Participants

  • Combining both on-campus and computer-based modules (accessible to you both online and via USB flash drive provided by the program), MAST participants will walk away from this hybrid learning experience with the skills and knowledge they need to move their agricultural business forward.

On-Campus Component
This discussion-based learning component allows our participants to learn directly from our expert program faculty in a small group setting.  Interactive presentations and peer-to-peer networking opportunities dominate the on-campus component, ensuring our participants feel connected within the industry and have solid contacts for idea sharing and problem solving.  As a MAST participant, you will be able to directly apply the skills and tactics you learn during these on-campus sessions to help answer the following questions (and many more) for your own business operation:

Where do I want my business to be in 3-6 months (and how can I get there)?
Where do I want my business to be in 3-6 years?
How do I want to grow my business to remain competitive and outperform my peers?
What trends are coming around the corner that I need to prepare for?

Self-Paced, Computer-Based Learning Modules
While at the November kick-off session, participants will be granted access to our computer-based modules designed to be viewed between the November kick-off session and the February concluding session.  Each self-contained module consists of videos and exercises created by our topic experts, who are distinguished faculty and renowned industry leaders.  The modules are designed to be viewed at each participant’s own convenience, as they allow participants to directly apply the program content to their farming businesses.  Our faculty are available to answer questions along the way and help participants explore the different topic areas to help their businesses succeed. Topics include:

Land Ownership & Leasing Tax & Policy Management
Machinery Ownership & Leasing Financial Analysis
Human Resource Management Marketing
Risk Management
